Regional and national support funds

There are two possibilities to apply for public support for filmmaking in Latvia:

  1. National Film Centre of Latvia (www.nfc.lv) – the financing comes from the state budget through the Ministry of Culture. The project competition is announced once a year. The financing is aloted on the basis of project quality. Expert committees, three persons in each branch – feature films, animations, documentaries, other film branch related projects (distribution, etc.) take the decisions. Two of the experts are not regular staff of the Centre; they are film business representatives appointed by the strategic board of the NFC (the board consists of representatives from the Film Centre, Filmmakers Union, Producers Association, Distributors Association, National Television, etc.). However, they may not have any interests in any of the projects submitted for the competition. One of the experts is Head of Production of the NFC.
  2. The State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia (www.kkf.lv) – the financing comes from the state budget. The project competitions are announced 3 times a year. There is an expert committee consisting of 7 professionals that takes the decisions.
